Driveway Base Prep Done Right - Built to Last

Most people think a new driveway is about what goes on top - the gravel, the asphalt, the concrete. But the real work happens underneath. A poorly prepped base is the number one reason driveways crack, sink, and wash out. Get the foundation wrong, and it doesn't matter what you put on top of it.

Here's what we were working with - a wooded corridor that needed to be cleared, graded, and compacted into a solid, level base ready to carry real load. That means removing trees and brush, grinding out root systems, and then bringing in our grading equipment to shape the soil correctly. It's methodical work, and it has to be done in the right order.

The grading phase is where everything comes together. We work the soil to build a slight crown so water sheds off to the sides instead of pooling in the middle. That detail alone extends the life of a driveway significantly. Flat looks good in a photo - crowned is what actually holds up through years of rain and heavy use.

What you end up with is a base that's ready. Ready for gravel, ready for asphalt, ready for whatever the finished surface is going to be. We don't cut corners at this stage because there's no fixing a bad foundation once everything is poured or packed on top of it. The prep work is the job.

Whether you're putting in a new driveway to a home or cutting in a new access road on a piece of property, the process is the same. Clear it. Grade it. Get it right. That's what we do.
